On the 2nd of August,2024, PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Salt Lake 2 hosted an inspiring and competitive event — the Youth Parliament. This unique event serves as a platform for young minds to simulate parliamentary proceedings and understand the democratic process. Youth Parliament encourages students to engage in discussions, debates, and decision-making, mirroring the functioning of a real parliamentary system. The event aims to instill values of democracy, discipline, and leadership among students while enhancing their public speaking and critical thinking skills.
This year, the Youth Parliament at PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Salt Lake 2 saw participation from seven schools across the region. The enthusiasm and dedication of all the participants were palpable as they debated passionately on various national issues, showcasing their understanding of parliamentary protocols and procedures. Each school presented well-researched arguments and demonstrated a commendable level of preparation and poise.
Among the participants was our school, PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Ballygunge, whose team of 55 dedicated students worked tirelessly to prepare for the event. Our school was represented with great vigour and enthusiasm, and our team’s efforts culminated in a performance that reflected the hard work and determination of each participant. The commitment and rigorous preparation were evident in every debate and discussion, earning us the second position in this prestigious contest.
Coming second in such a highly competitive event was a moment of immense pride and joy for all of us. The announcement was met with a mix of emotions — elation for having achieved such a commendable rank and a tinge of disappointment for missing the top spot. However, this achievement was a testament to the relentless efforts and teamwork put in by our students. It was a remarkable experience that taught us the importance of perseverance, unity, and a never-give-up attitude. The intense preparation phase, involving hours of practice sessions, debates, and strategy planning, brought us all closer and instilled a deeper understanding of the democratic process.
Looking ahead, we are more motivated than ever to clinch the first prize in the next Youth Parliament, scheduled for 2025. We have already begun strategizing on how to improve our performance, focusing on refining our debating skills, enhancing our knowledge of parliamentary procedures, and developing a deeper understanding of national and international issues. Our team is committed to learning from this experience and building on our strengths while addressing the areas that need improvement.
