The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 aims to transform the education by providing a framework for inclusive, equitable, and excellent education. NIPUN (National Initiative for Proficiency in reading with Understanding and Numeracy) Lakshyas are a key component of NEP 2020, focusing on:-
- Reading with Understanding: Students will read with a focus on comprehension and critical thinking.
- Numeracy: Students will engage in problem-solving activities to develop mathematical thinking and reasoning.
To achieve the NIPUN Lakshyas, the following activities were implemented in primary classes with an emphasis on:
Oral language:-
- Real life based interactions
- Story-telling with puppets
- Show and tell
- Role play
- Rhymes etc.
Reading:
- Picture reading
- Phonological Awareness through activities like – I can hear, I can see
- Read and draw
- Read and match the pictures
- Reading games: read and arrange story in sequence etc.
Writing:
- Dictation
- Handwriting Competition
- Scribbling
- Tracing
- Story writing etc.
Numeracy:-
- Number games
- Puzzle solving
- Shopping Play
- Treasure hunt etc.
